Every time you feel pain in your body, it is an indication that all is not well and often requires a visit to the doctor. A tooth problem may seem small, but it can generate unimaginable pain. Those who have experienced severe toothaches can attest that this kind of pain is one of the most uncomfortable problems people have to endure. The good news is that you do not have to endure it more than you already have. There are some simple home remedies that can help you relieve the dental pain and have your pain-free life back again. These remedies include:
1. Use Clove Oil
In the past, many civilizations have used clove oil for dental purposes. It contains a chemical known as eugenol, which comes with antibacterial and anesthetic properties. To relieve a toothache, you should soak a clean cloth ball with a blend of 2-3 drops of clove oil and a quarter teaspoon of olive oil. Place the cotton ball near the tooth that aches and bite it down. Even though FDA doesn't promote this form of treatment anymore, there are some dentists who still believe in its effectiveness.
2. Try Cough Drops
Cough drops come packed with minimal amounts of anesthetics, which means they may help to relieve your tooth pain. You can pop 1-2 cough drops in your mouth and suck on them but don't chew.
3. Brush and Floss
Sometimes, the solution to an aching tooth may be as simple as removing a particle that's trapped between your teeth. Try brushing with an interdental brush, floss, and then rinse with mouthwash. If you have realized that food gets stuck to your teeth more than its normal, consider seeking medical attention.
There are also various kitchen staples that have been proven helpful in reducing toothache. Applying hot tea bag directly to the troubled tooth, for example, is known to act as a pain reliever. This is because tea contains small amounts of tannic acid, which is good in reducing swelling. Some people rely on sliced cucumbers to relive tooth pains. Others have also relied on the alcohol's numbing properties to calm their aching teeth. To try this method, soak a cotton ball in brandy and place it on the tooth and just wait for the pain to recede.
Even though there are some simple home remedies to relieve minor toothaches, there are those circumstances in which it will be wiser to seek the dentist's intervention. Since you know the problems that can arise if you ignore the toothache for long, it would be best to see your dentist sooner, rather than later.
