3 Reasons Not To Worry About Speech Problems With Invisalign

Dentist Blog

One of the main reasons people choose Invisalign braces for straightening their teeth is so that no one will know they are wearing braces. For this reason, invisible braces are ideal and very common for working adults. However, some people have a little trouble talking normally after getting invisible braces. This is not something you should really worry about though, and here are three reasons why.

Most People Have No Trouble Talking

If the goal of choosing Invisalign over traditional braces is so that you can keep your orthodontic regimen a secret, you may be concerned that it will affect your speech. The truth is that it can affect a person's speech, but it usually does not. A recent study showed that approximately 93% of people with Invisalign had no problems talking at all. This means that only 7% of people surveyed had problems, and this survey was used to determine whether speech problems existed within the first three to six months of treatment.

It Just Takes Some Adjusting

Like anything in life, adjusting to wearing invisible braces takes time. The aligners used to straighten teeth with Invisalign can feel awkward in your mouth at first, but this is primarily because you are not used to wearing them. This is completely normal, and it may leave you with problems talking at first.

In most cases, though, people with Invisalign are able to adjust quickly to the aligners. Within a few days, most people are able to talk and do things normally even while wearing the aligners. Therefore, if you do get invisible braces and experience problems with your speech right away, you should realize that these issues are likely to go away within a few days.

The Aligners Are Less Obvious

Even if you are one of the few people that have trouble talking normally while wearing your aligners, you are still less likely to have people notice that you are wearing braces than if you had traditional braces.

In addition, if there are times when you want to make sure your speech is as clear as possible, you could always remove the aligners. For example, if you have an important meeting or interview, you could simply take the aligners out before you walk in. This is not something you could do with traditional braces.

Invisalign braces are a great option for getting straighter teeth. They are less noticeable than traditional braces, yet they can be just as effective. To learn more, contact a dentist that offers Invisalign in your area.
